The mystery that permeates through abandoned places - whether it's just one building, a neighborhood, or even a whole city - people love to explore them. Beelitz Military Hospital is located in Germany. The particular abandoned building and several others in the complex were constructed in the year 1898. Now that it's abandoned, it hasn't been marked by any graffiti and is even looks almost free of decay, giving the building an unsettling feeling. The Beelitz Military Hospital was used during World War I by the Imperial German Army, with it's most famous resident being a young Adolf Hitler, who was sent here to recover from a gunshot wound to the leg.
Taiwan is home to Katoli World, an abandoned theme park and probably one of the creepiest abandoned places on the planet. On September 21st, 1999, a huge earthquake hit Taiwan, and thousands of people in the country were killed. It had also destroyed several of the attractions in Katoli World, and the park shut down. It had been a very successful place in Taiwan, as it was one of only a few that had rollercoasters. Now, all the rollercoasters are decrepit and the haunted house is even creepier than it had been.
Yashima is a totally abandoned city in the country of Japan. This city was built on a very high plateau, a very important location, as it was the location for a famous battle during the Genpei War on March 2, 1185. Yashima was meant to serve as a resort town to get tourists to visit. Several luxurious hotels were constructed, as well as a cable car, and new businesses were created. Unfortunately, Japan's economy took a bad turn, and they were suddenly without adequate funds to keep the city open. Everything in the city has to close. Shops still have displays in the windows and the hotel rooms are still furnished. People still travel here, though, in order to see the revered Yashima Temple.
This is only a small selection of the many abandoned places on our planet. There are certainly more out there to be uncovered and explored.
